We have Unity 4.0(3) (VM only) in one AD Forest.
We are migrating to a new forest to a new implemenation of Unity 4.0(4) (UM).
What is the best way to migrate the user's voicemail settings and the Call Handlers to the new Unity system in the new Forest.
I'm contemplating using the bulk/export/import and the DBWalker.

I'm not sure what you mean by bulk/export/import - if you mean FullDBImport/Export that's only for exporting 2.x data and importing into 3.x or 4.x systems - you don't use that for migrating 4.x systems around.
You'd use DiRT for this - check out the help and training videos on its home page here:

you'll also find info on this in the Reconfiguration and Upgrade guide found here:

Yes, you are right ... the FullDBImportExport is only for the 2.x version.
Further correction to my original post ... the existing verion of Unity is 4.0(2).
We need to backup (primarily) the subscriber data, call handlers, interviewers, voice names, greetings, and passwords from the 4.0(2) system.
We want to restore to the new 4.0(4) system.
In reading through the DiRT tool, it seems as though you cannot take a backup from one version of Unity and restore to a different version.
Is this true? or is this true for only "some" things?

no, that's true. Each version of Unity makes changes in the DB and registry and local files etc... and DiRT's complexity would go through the roof and then some if it had to both migrate data _and_ upgrade system information in one shot.
You'll either have to do the backup of 4.0(2) and restore on a 4.0(2) install and upgrade or upgrade to 4.0(4) and then backup and import into a 4.0(4) installation.

Is there any other way? ??? I'd like to avoid having to do an upgrade to the existing system.
Can I just export some fo the 4.0(2) information such as subscribers, greetings and passwords???

No, there is no other way. Honest. I'm not holding out on you.
there's no way to export things like passwords and handlers and such into a file and import them seperately - you can get top level information in subscriber information dump but this will be a very small amount of data (i.e. no passwords, no notification devices, no call handlers, no links between objects would be preserved etc... etc...).
I understand you want to avoid the extra step but c'mon - it's not that bad.

Thanks for the help Jeff.
We're going to go ahead and just start fresh and have the users re-enroll. I can export the some of the data about the existing subscribers using the Subscriber Information Dump.
I can get their existing voicemail via ExMerge.

There is no way for you to avoid having to do an upgrade. The upgrading is critical to migrating the database structure from one version to another --amongst other things.
Thanks,
Keith
