I'm pretty sure there's a way to be able to track down IP addresses by switch port in DHCP using DHCP snooping or some such thing. We sometimes have an IP that we're looking for on the network. We can usually trace it back, but it would be easier if we could just look at our DHCP server and find the switchport that way.
Anyone know what I'm talking about or am I way out in left field here?
As far as I know, there is no way to have a regular DHCP server track a switchport. If you use CiscoWorks or other network management tools, a lot of times they have a module that can put can piece the available information to give you that picture. I don't think that DHCP-snooping feature you mentioned relates to giving that information to a DHCP server, but I could be wrong.
