I solved the issue with command on AP via console:
clear capwap private-config
reload
save config -> yes
After that AP can join an another vWLC.
BTW an another cosmetic issue on vWLC: the generated SSC certificate has <support@vwlc.com> as contact...

Hi, I see the RSSI and ED/TI Threshold on show 802.11a/b command, like this on WLC 5508:

It changes the range, high power to run big cells (coverage area), low power for many small cells in a high density environment. Beside that, you can lower the transmit power in 2.4Ghz and help chose the clients the 5GHz cell with stronger signal.
There is a Virtual WLC, but it's more for small setup or to control AP in branch offices via VPN, where AP are supposed to work even the controller is unreachable.
In your case with stable 1G/10G-LAN and redundant WLC, I personally recommend to do it...
Yes you order licenses as usual. Just the deployment changed since 3504/5520 WLC as they use "right-to-use" licensing. AKA you just confirm the WLC you have the licenses, allowing deployment/replacement in real time without further paperwork.
