I have an external Motorola codex modem attached to a 1751-V via WIC-2A/S async dialing into a 2620XM with a NM-8A. For some reason sporatically calls fail with NO CARRIER. Neither the dialing side (1751) or the RAS side (2620) see a carrier but both...
I have a WIC-1AM installed. When I do a 'show modem' I don't see a number for the modem, I guess because there is only one modem. If I want to clear the modem using 'clear modem' - so I use just 'clear modem' without the slot/port to clear it since it...

do a 'show post' on the 2950G-48-EI and see if there are any POST failures, it is a long shot but maybe there is something wrong with fa0/38 or it's ASIC that is causing this.
Sounds like a bug or an inherent incompatibility. Might want to open a TAC case and see if there is a bug open or anything they might know about such problems. Good Luck-Robert
