Hello there, I have a 5x 3750X stack already in production. Due to lack of length of some cables, the most important connections were connected from the bottom up. Now i have to take a switch out of the stack and the only switch i can take out is the 1st one. My issue is, when i take out the 1st switch, i want the configuration to "adapt" to the new stack numbering. Meaning the 2nd switch configuration passes to the 1st.. the 3rd to the 2nd and so on. When i remove the 1st switch of the stack, i lose the configuration of the switch when i do the no switch 1 provision command. (which is what i want) After that i renumber switch 5 to 4, 4 to 3, 3 to 2 and 2 to 1. With this i actually stay with a 4 switches stack by order as expected. Problem is, the configuration that was on port Gi2/0/1, remains on port Gi2/0/1 instead of moving up (as the switch did when i renumbered it) to Gi1/0/1. Is there any way to move the configuration to the new ports? I've tested different ways but am not able to find an answer. From what i understood the switch X provision command maintains the configuration until the no of that command is issued. Is there a way of recovering that part of the configuration and reapplying it to another switch? If you have any doubts with what i just tried to explain please let me know Thank you in advance, João Santos

hello there, Just in case anyone else has this question, i was able to test this solution and in fact you can have vPC using different model Nexus. While connecting the peer-keepalive and peer-link from one Nexus 56xx to the 55xx , i only lost 2 pings out of 10K, meaning the loss is minimum if you ever have to do something like this.

Yes Sean, Theoretically the only thing i'd have to worry is if all the vPC configurations and the consistency parameters match on both sides, but practically speaking, this might be something that is not possible to do and i am yet to find any information at Cisco that either confirms or denies that vPC between two different Nexus is possible or not. I'll try digging a little deeper to see if i can find something but thank you so much for your reply. Cheers.

Hi, I have a vPC topology up and running using 2 Nexus 5596. I need to exchange those 5596 for two 5600 Nexus Switches. In order to migrate the solution with minimum downtime, is it possible for me to disconnect one of the 5596 and connect a preconfigured 5600? As long as all the parameters are consistent with one another would the vPC go up again? Or is it mandatory for me to have 2 identical Nexus switches ? Thank you in advance!

Good afternoon, I have 2 Nexus 5596 up and running vpc on a client. I need to substitute those equipments with another Nexus model the 5600. Is it possible for me to configure one 5600 and connect it to one of the 5596( disconnecting the other 5596), maintaining the vPC up? Meaning, can i migrate this solutions one nexus 5600 at a time ? interconnecting like this a 5596 with a 5600 with the same vpc domain up and running? Thank you so much in advance, Joao Santos
