Hello,
I have used a cisco client ver. 4.0.3 installed in my laptop to connect to VPN server.
When my VPN client is connected to a remote VPN server through wired LAN at my site office, I cannot use Internet at the same time. I have understanded that this could not be possible unless "split tunnel" is allowed in the server side. When I connect to the server through Wi-Fi network at the same office, I can use Internet. It caused me to confuse, so I checked the default gateway IP address of my network using the "ipconfig" command. It showed the two IP address 10.100.128.1 and 10.100.128.2 for the wireless network connection, and one IP address 10.69.225.70 for the wired network connection.
How can you explin the above two situation? Did the two default gateways allow me to use Internet when my client is connected to the server through the wi-Fi network??? Did the disable "split tunnel" function in the VPN server block me form using Internet, connecting to the server through the wired network??? I don't think so. Why??
When my client is connected to VPN server through the Wi-Fi home network at my home which has only one default gateway, 192.168.0.1. I don't have any problem with using Internet. How can you explain this weird situation??? I really want to use Internet through both a wired and wireless network at other site office which have only one gateway respectively. Could you explain on this?
Thanks you so much...Jae

I am on the hotel on they way to business travel. I cannot delete VPN client, now, because I have to use MS Outlook.
I have internet connection problem with Internet Explorer when I disconnect VPN. On the Internet Explorer, Only Https address works, but Http address does not work. Can you answer this first. I will answer your advice after coming back home. I cannot email you without VPN. Jae

Check if a proxy is set for internet explorer. Start>Settings>Control Panel>Internet Options>Connections tab>Lan settings. If an ip is typed in use a proxy server, note it down for later use, uncheck the use a proxy option.
Also right-click your network connection in network neighbors properties then click repair

Thanks..
I Checked Proxy, but already unchecked. I did
A"right-click your network connection in network neighbors properties then click repair', but still same result. Only https works. I feel my laptop is geeting crashed. When I inserted a flash drive into the laptop or play a vedio file, my laptop is suddenly frozen. So I powered off and tried to reboot, but it got stopped booting. Even stopped in safety mode. It get barely booted after I turned off and rebooted several times. I think some files in the system 32 folder seems to be demaged because the saftey mode booting get stopped in the certain file point. What caused this problem start from after uninstalling VPN client 4.0 and installing VPN 5.0 as you know. Please help me..

Actually the "not a valid win32 application" made me think your laptop is infected by a virus.
For repairing system files, you need a WinXP cd with you, then run sfc /scannow to repair files.

I DON'T have a Window CD with me. This is my company Laptop. They wants me to ship this computer. DO you have any other way to repair system files. jae

Running combofix might help.

You are welcome, I hope we can fix all.
Combofix fixes malware entries that would corrupt your browser to malfunction. Winsockfix repairs the corruptions that may have caused by VPN software. But I dont know a corruption type that may cause http not to work and https to work.
Now let me understand the current issue. You can not connect to internet even the VPN is disconnected correct?
I have a couple of questions and need some outputs of diagnostics
1) I think you are in a hotel. Do you use wireless? May there be any quotas/restrictions by hotel management?
2) Connect via VPN. As you establish connection, right-click my network neighbors at desktop>Properties. Now right click Cisco VPN Adapter then click repair. Then disconnect your VPN client
3) After you disconnect VPN, do the same repair for your Local Area connection or Wireless connection. While VPN is disconnected, please run the following in command line
nslookup
then run
tracert 64.156.132.140
then run
route print
And post the outputs of these commands here.

I don't know what environments has been changed on my claptop after installing combo fix. I need a time to watch.
I could not connect to internet at a hotel and my office on wired when the VPN is disconnected correct? The hotel, adam's mark provided a free wired internet service.
As per your request, I created the two jpg files, but it cannot recreate my problem because I am now at my home through wireless connection. I have not had any Internet and VPN problem at my home. I used wireless router with VPN through at my home. I think that my Interent problem always with wired connnection, not wireless. Yesterday I came back to my office. I tried to connect to Internet at my office thorugh wired connection, but it did not work both Http and Https in this case (at the hotel, only http did not work), but strangely HTTP and HTTps Internet works immediately after connecting and then disconnecting VPN. This means that VPN connection is related to Internet munfunction. My second problem is that my laptop suddenly stopped as I said before after installing and uninstalling VPN 5, but not yesterday and today. But I need more time to watch my computer, but I think that I need to repair my window system files. Thanks Jae

Believe me that your system files are working atm, you dont need a repair. If a critical system file was corrupted, you wouldnt be able to connect to internet at home.
Only logical explaination for what you encounter is one of the following,
1) You have static IP addresse and gateway assigned to your LAN connection (wired)
2) You have more than one connections active at the same time ( wireless and LAN or LAN and a gprs at the same time) which causes default route determination issues
Current ouputs are OK, all working. If you encounter this issue again (at work etc), please send the same ouputs again including an ipconfig /all

Husy,
Can you expplain more about this: "You have static IP addresse and gateway assigned to your LAN connection (wired)"
My IP address is set as DCHP at my office.
I only use one connection at a time, wire or wireless to avoid any confusion.
I use Linksys wireless router with VPN pass through at my home. When connected to VPN, Internet connection icon as seen the attaced photos, always appears and gets enabled. when I disconnect VPN, it also get disabled. Do you know what is that?

"Can you expplain more about this: "You have static IP addresse and gateway assigned to your LAN connection (wired)" "
If you statically assign an IP address to LAN connection, for example 192.168.1.5, and a gateway of 192.168.1.1 for example, ths will work at place which you made configuration for. In somewhere else, in hotel or at work, IP subnet would be different. And since your IP address is assigned static, it wont acquire a valid IP address at work or in hotel. So it must be set to obtain automatically.
I usually see the icon you mention when computer connects to a WAN provider with a device connected to itself like a USB modem. But also sometimes see it when computer successfully connect to internet , especially in winxp Home editions, but sometimes I dont see it altough the inernet is connected. But this may be indicating one thing!
If your VPN endpoint is configured to force all traffic through the tunnel, the VPN client will no more be surfing internet via its local gateway. Client will be connecting and even surfing the internet over main office, the VPN endpoint. If so, whenever you connect VPN, you will be having a new internet connection/service that is controlled by main office, and this might be causing that icon appear.
If above is correct, that would explian the problem you face in hotel. Since laptop is forced to use the tunnel, a possible problem with VPN passthrough in the line that hotel management provided to you, will affect your internet connectivity also.
To prove above theory, connect your VPN client. Right-click the VPN icon at right-bottom, then click statistics. Now click route details tab. If you dont see any network entry at right, or you see a network entry of 0.0.0.0, theory is correct.
Another way of testing this is, while you are not connectet via VPN client, visit www.whatismyip.com . You will see your public IP. Now close the browser, connect via VPN client, then open a new browser and visit the site above again. If you see a different public IP, then theory is correct
About the issue in hotel that while you were not connected to VPN and were unable to browse the network, hotel management might have been using a transparent proxy (they always use for advertisements when they provide free internet) which would affect your internet connection.
