I have inherited a network with no handover. There is a Cisco 881 router and I'm trying to gain access but having no previous Cisco experience I have no idea how to.

So some quesstions.

1. Does the Cisco 881 support DHCP server, ie can it allocate IP addresses

2. Is the Router accessible via the web, I know its IP etc but don't know how to configure it

Very basic questions I know, but I appreciate your help.

Hi,

Yes & Yes - It can act as DHCP server and can be accessible via web.  Refer to datasheet below..

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/routers/ps380/data_sheet_c78_459542_ps380_Products_Data_Sheet.html

I would suggest to exercise password recovery procedure, to gain access to the same.

1. Does the Cisco 881 support DHCP server, ie can it allocate IP addresses

Yes, but with some limitation.  The router will not be able to support ALL DHCP options.

2. Is the Router accessible via the web, I know its IP etc but don't know how to configure it

Yes and no.

Firstly, your router should have Cisco Network Asstance (CNA) files.  If someone (like me), erased it you can go to the Cisco website and download CNA and re-install into the router.

So, the answer is yes.

But I wouldn't recommend it for the following reasons:

1.  Not all browsers are supported.

2.  Configuration via HTML can cause the CPU to balloon up.

3.  Not all features are supported via GUI.

If you are not "familiar" with command line interface (CLI) then I recommend you start getting used to it.  If you want to get the benefit of any Cisco enterprise kit, CLI is the way to go.
