Hi all,
I have a problem with Cisco's VPN Client. It used to work, but I think
after a kernel update it stopped working. I had not tested it for a
while after the update.
I can start the deamon:
# /etc/init.d/vpnclient_init status
Module Size Used by
cisco_ipsec 547068 0
cipsec0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:0B:FC:F8:01:8F
NOARP MTU:1356 Metric:1
RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
RX bytes:0 (0.0 b) TX bytes:0 (0.0 b)
but when I try to connect to all the VPNs this error message is always
produced:
# vpnclient connect VPN1
Cisco Systems VPN Client Version 4.8.00 (0490)

Client Type(s): Linux
Running on: Linux 2.6.20-16-generic #2 SMP Sun Sep 23 19:50:39 UTC 2007 i686
Config file directory: /etc/opt/cisco-vpnclient
Initializing the VPN connection.
Secure VPN Connection terminated locally by the Client
Reason: Failed to establish a VPN connection.
There are no new notification messages at this time.
The system runs :
Linux xxx1 2.6.20-16-generic #2 SMP Sun Sep 23 19:50:39 UTC 2007 i686
GNU/Linux
I have tried uninstalling and recompiling the client but have had no joy.
Would someone please be able to help me with this?
Best regards, Simon.

Is there anyone who runs VPN client on this kernel?

Hi,
Unfortunately I don't know the answer to your problem, but I know a workaround. I use vpnc: took 2 minutes to install (with synaptic) and works very well.
I onces wanted to install the cisco client on Fedora and gave up after a few hours (I am not a linux guru :)
Good luck.
