IPsec Nat Transperancy

I have a few questions and would really appreciate your insight:

1. IPsec NAT trasperancy allows compatibility b/w NAT and IPsec...is it only for client to router and client to PIX? what about router to router if they have a nat device inbetween?

2. Any diff between nat-traversal and nat-transperancy?

3. does nat transperancy work if I have a third party nat device inbetween

Thanks a lot in advance

Hi AD,

PIX and IOS routers use NAT- Traversal (UDP 4500) to pass through a NAT device, there is a nat-D packet that will discover any NAT device along the way of the Peers. The beauty of this protocol, it's becoming a industry standard.

I have included information that might be helpful to you:
