IPSEC VPN performance through firewall?

Would there be any reason that ipsec vpn performance would degrade if it had to pass through a Cisco ASA firewall?

The only reason I see is all ipsec packets will be encapsulated once again by UDP/TCP protocols since your vpn traffic is passing through a firewall(This is behaviour is common for any firewall,not specific to ASA)
