Issues with Cisco VPN Client (4.03d) and Apple Airport Express

Hello

I am posting this question to this forum with the hopes that somebody will be able to assist me and MANY OTHER users with the same problem. Although this issue may seem a bit esoteric one can imagine how large it could become with the explosive growth of Apples ITunes and related products.

Here is the situation:

Win XP – connection to a SMC WiFi router ( wireless and/or hardwire)

Cisco VPN Client 4.03 to access corp resources from home

Apples Airport Extreme Base Station acting as a “client” on the network to play tunes on a stereo system from the computer (very cool!)

Looks something like this:

ITunes software => Win XP (MSFT firewall disabled)

==> Ethernet CAT 5==>

SMC WiFi Router (w connection to internet)

/\/\/\/\(WiFi)/\/\/\/

Airport Extreme with Airtunes ( fixed IP on the network not acting as an access point)

==> wire to ==> Stereo system -> Play tunes!

Works GREAT until I launch and connect the CiscoVPN and the connection to the Airport Extreme is lost and the resource can no longer be used. Disconnect the VPN client and everything is fine again.

Apple tech note state that the UDP Port 5353 needs to be open in any firewall but I cannot seem to find a way to open this on the client.

On the Cisco VPN Client I’ve tried IPSEC/TCP and UDP both with LAN Access allowed

I will cross post any solutions to Apples site to assist other Cisco VPN users pout there (a few on the forums with the same issue that is unresolved)

Any suggestions?

Hi Don,

it has been quite a while since you have posted this question.

I have come accross it because I am running into the same problems. I have purchased Airport Express only a week ago.

Have you been able to resolve the issue since? If so, I would greatly appreciate if you could email me the remedy: menget@web.de

Thanks!

Til

I was never able to resolve the issue... BUT... I stopped using the VPN in January 2006 so I do not know if any updates to Apple or Cisco software resolved the issue.
