I'm re-purposing some 2821 and 3825 routers to do terminate VPN tunnels to AWS. The tunnels will be IPSec ESP with 128-bit AES per Amazon's standard. Traffic will be very light but occasionally there will be bursts up to 100 Mbps, so I do want to leverage hardware acceleration.
The 2821s have AIM-VPN/SSL-2 daughter cards, while the 3825s have AIM-VPN/EPII-PLUS modules installed. Does anyone know which would be better for this use case?
I know the AIM-VPN-SSL line will support WebVPN, IPv6, and GDOI, but not sure if there's a performance advantage. I see their throughput numbers at http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/routers/2800-series-integrated-services-routers-isr/data_sheet_vpn_aim_for_18128003800routers.html, but I can't find an equivalent for the EPII-PLUS as a comparison.
