REMOTE MONITORING OF CISCO ROUTER

Hi All,

We have a requirement to monitor a single Cisco IOS router at a customers premises. We would normally set up remote NMS but in this instance our customer wants to monitor it themselves as they can not justify monthly costs for our full NMS service. We just want to use a simple ping say every 60 mins or so to check the router is still up. There has also been a number of power issues (mains 240V) at the premises and by monitoring the router it will tell us if there is a loss of 240V AC and or WAN connectivity. Should the router go down and or the power goes off pings will fail from the main site and an SMS or email notification can be sent directly to our customer. At the customers main site they can use either a PC or their windows server. Our question is does anyone here know of any such simple system that could do this job??

As always any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi,

If you want to know power is down/email/sms, simple ping does not help. You need SNMP monitoring. Check the below link with some free(?) softwares. Or google for the same...

Hi,

Thank you for your response. We already use Spiceworks but this particular customer just wanted a ping service to monitor their remote site. We will take a look at the possibility of monitoring this on our main NMS.

I have selected correct answer as I feel the information you provided was very useful.

Thanks.
