Secure Client VPN inaccessible via shared internet connection hotspot

I'm using Cisco Secure Client app on MacOS (Sequoia). I connect my Mac computer via ethernet. The VPN works fine. However, I need to share my VPN connection via wifi hotspot.

Sharing my ordinary internet connection via wifi works fine — my phone connects to the hotspot and gets internet. But as soon as I connect the VPN via the Cisco Secure Client app on the computer, my connected wifi connection on my phone says no internet access.

I've already tried enabling the setting "Allow Local (LAN) access when using VPN (if configured)". However, the issue persists.

Any advice on how to resolve this issue?

Any help

the secure client shuts down other stuff when the vpn is connected.. the VPN is really meant for that specific user who is logged in. local lan access is only for the same adapter where you are connected from that is ethernet... a while ago i was able to allow a VM running under the host machine that was VPNed into.. so the VM also could access the VPN.. not sure if they locked it down now..  Are you not able to establish a site to site ? most cheap wifi routers can do a site to site..

Thank you, @ccieexpert , for your quick input.

I’m aware of the VM option, but it’s not suitable for my use case. Changing the router or modifying its configuration is not accessible/feasible right now. Thank you for those suggestions, though!

I’m conducting tests to establish a VPN connection on an iPhone (iOS) and evaluate Apple’s location detection in relation to location specific services/permissions. While the iPhone’s built-in VPN feature works, it appears Apple can still determine the true connection location. My goal is to test whether connecting via Wi-Fi to a device with an established VPN connection (e.g., my Mac) prevents Apple from detecting the home location and instead sees only the VPN location.

the ICS is completely blocked as you can imagine it would be a security flaw of VPN...perhaps you can try to assign a physica; wireless nic to a VM and see if it can work that way... again my experience of using a VM was from a long time ago... it is probably a security loophole. not sure if still works..
