Using external groups on RADIUS server with VPN 3030

I have a problem when defining external groups on the VPN 3030 concentrator, they are not authenticated correctly via the RADIUS server defined.

When I define the same group as Internal, users are authenticated.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Most of all I would like to know what is the reason for defining external groups if attributes could be passed for the group by the RADIUS server even if the group is defined as internal on the VPN concentrator as referenced by the following doc:

There really is no reason to define external groups. The group names must be the same on both sides. Since you are using a radius server use that for your user-to-group mappings. It is much easier to setup and troubleshoot. I have 2 vpn3030 and I use acs for all of the policy and configuration aspects of the vpn session.

Hope this helps
