Using VPN Cisco Anyconnect Secure Mobility Client V3.1.05187 client on Windows 8.1

Recently I have been having problems connecting to my work desktop from home. The event in the event log indicates that I need to reinstall my VPN after upgrading windows. I have not upgraded my windows and have uninstalled and reinstalled the above VPN client. It works the first time through, but connecting after that then gives me the error that "either the remote computer is off, or I don't have access, or remote isn't allowed", which isn't the case. I have used this method for many years.

If I uninstall and reinstall, again gets me in, but gives the error next time I remote. Anyone run into this odd error situation?
