VPN 3.1 Client disconnects

I use Windows XP Home, the Cisco 3.1 VPN client, the free version of the Zone Alarm firewall, and AT&T's Broadband Internet service. After I installed the above software, I was able to connect through our company's VPN without any problem. The next day I tried it again, and was able to connect. However, after approximately 45 - 50 seconds, I was disconnected with the message "Your IPSec connection has been terminated". Every subsequent attempt, the same thing would happen. So I deinstalled and reinstalled the 3.1 VPN client. Tried to connect and it worked like a charm. Just like before, subsequent attempts would give me the IPSec error message. Has anybody else experienced this?

First off, the software client 3.5 works better on XP (more stable) so I would do a complete uninstall(including registry removal as some keys are left behind) and then install 3.5. When installing 3.5 you may be prompted to disable Internet Connection Sharing as this is not compatible with the VPN software. Do so(You can enable it later) but also disable the built-in firewall XP has as you will get the same message about ICS even though it is about the firewall.

Thanks for the info. However, I don't see on Cisco's web site where I can download the 3.5 client. Do you know where I can get it?

I just e-mailed it to you. If you have a Cisco CCO login you can download it from the Cisco page.

I had a user experience the same problem, as did I. After connecting using VPN Client 3.5.1 from XP, we would lose our connection after 1 or 2 minutes. What I did to resolve this issue was to change the setting under the adapter properties authentication tab. Just uncheck the boxes and you should be fine.

We are experiencing a timeout issue also, though it is with 2000. Has anyone else had these issues ? If so, what was the fix ?
