vpn authentication

In a vpn setup using a third party radius server, the user authentication logs indicate
the authentication mechanism is PAP.
I am curious to know how does it get decided to use PAP , is it the vpn firewall that determines or is the radius server?

Hi,

It's the firewall that determines which protocol to use to authenticate the users, reference here. For authenticating RAVPN users to RADIUS on the ASA, you can use PAP or MSCHAPv2.
