All,
I have a client that is having issues with Outlook 2003 SP2 across a VPN client connection. The users disconnect from Outlook over time and the Exchange log shows them to have exhausted their default MAPI sessions (32). The user cannot connect to Outlook until these are cleared down by a reload of the Exchange server (not ideal). Has anyone experienced this before?
Outlook 2003 SP2 (Build 11.8010.8036)
Exchange Server 2003 Enterprise SP2 (Build 6.5.7638.1)
The VPN Client 4.7.00.0533
VPN 3020 Cluster 4.7.2 REL K9
Thanks

To use Outlook/Exchange Proxy, the client machine must make a connection to the Exchange server before making one through WebVPN. The requirement for local connection to excahnge server because the Java application that runs for port forwarding learns what it needs from registry entries for the exchange server.

You might want to try setting the MTU on the client to a smaller size.
We had problems with Outlook before (i.e. receiving emails, but sending won't work) and setting the MTU to as low as 800 Bytes fixed the issues.
I blame Microsoft's KB893066 security patch for these problems...
Good luck,
Christoph.

Thanks.
Since posting the client has informed me that the hosts with the issue also have Checkpoint Secure remote VPN client installed. Even though the service has been disabled it looks like it is conflicting with the Cisco VPN client. All hosts with just Cisco VPN are not having MAPI issues so this looks the probable culprit.
