VPN Client install - Error 27850

Greetings-

Attempting to install VPN Client 5.0.07.0290 on a WinXP SP3 box.  First attempted while logged into machine using AD credentials resulted in the following message:

Error 27850. Unable to manage networking component.  Operating system corruption may be preventing installation.

Did a quick search and one discussion indicated that the Windows AD Group Policies may be the problem.  Makes sense.

But then I logged into the machine using local account Administrator - same result.

Any ideas?

Hi,

Have you reinstalled the Cisco VPN client?

If you're not able to do so, please refer to this document to manually uninstall and reinstall the client.

It never "fully" installs the client - but if I mouse-over Start | Programs - it says a new application has been installed.

I have tried to turn around and re-install - but the same message pops up.

Do you think I will still need to "manually" un-install the client - even though the original install never took?

Even if the VPN client seemed to have never completed the installation, if the VPN does not work and won't let you remove it, the best way is to manually remove it using the link posted before.

Hi

I am having same Error msg on Win 7 x64 and my client version is vpnclient-winx64-msi-5.0.07.0290-k9. There are no footprint of Installation left when you Press OK button, it rollback failed installation. Please see attached snapshot of installtion error.

I have also tried in Run as Administrator but same Error msg. Any idea how to fix this issue?

Hello,

I was having the same issue, Error 27850 on a Win 7 x64 with client version vpnclient-winx64-msi-5.0.07.0440-k9

I found out this error was linked to another issue. I could connect on to the internet fine but I had no Local Area Connection adapter showing up in the Control Panel | Network and Internet| Network Connections.

I found the solution to the missing adaptor on the following website:

Just in case that site ever get down, I'm quoting the essential there. 

This is will work if you have the Error 27850 because you have no Local Area Connection adapter 

1. Click Start , click Run , type regedit , and then press ENTER.
2. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
   HKEY_LOCAL-MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Network
3. Right-click this subkey, click Export , and then save the selected branch in a file.
4. Click the Network subkey again, and then delete the Config entry. Do not delete the Network subkey. The Config entry will be reconstructed when you restart the computer.
5. Restart the computer. You may have to manually turn off the computer.

The config key is re-created on the next boot up! :)

On the next boot up, my Local Area Connection adapter was up in the Control Panel | Network and Internet | Network Connections and I was able to install the Cisco VPN client just fine without any Error 27850.

I followed the steps here but I am still getting the error when trying to install the cisco VPN client

I just figured this one out.  The issue is that you cannot add new services, likely you are running multiple virtual machine

products and/or multiple VPN solutions.  I am not exactly sure why, but Windows is only allowing a certain number of services/filters.

filters.  See if you are able to recreate the following for a specific network adapter.  Once I removed one of the VM filters (Microsoft VM in my case, the install was able to proceed successfully).

Don't know if this would apply to XP ( would need to rebuild a system to try it) but for Windows 7 users ( in my case x64)

The maximum number of network  filter drivers in Windows 7 is 14.

By default, it is set to 8

Can be increased to 14 in the the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Network\MaxNumFilters

Came across this in trying to fix an issue with VirtualBox & Bridged NIC's & uninstalled the Cisco VPN which Fixed that issue but then upon reinstall game me the error in this post which led me to the following post:

So far I have win7x64 with CiscoVPN, OpenVPN, XPMode, VirtualBox, and Symantec EPP Firewall, and appear OK, for now.

It works with me, win 7 x64.

I had the 8 filters drivers in use and put a value of 10 and is working.
