Yes asa is acting as firewall and vpn gateway (remote access vpn and site to site).

What kind of compatibility issue you're searching for?
And compatibility between what type of devices and for what feature?

Older Cisco vpn Devices Is it compatible with newer csico vpn devices?

Or is it possible to do redundancy?

Old and new VPN devices are able to do pretty much same things except for example IKEv2 where old devices aren't able to build IKEv2 based VPN.

If you give more inputs on what feature are you interested to validate the compatibility, I'll be more than happy to help.

Also, when talking about old devices, what are those devices? (PIX, VPNGateway, ASA with old version,....)
