Can I disable new message popup, but keep taskbar notifications?

Is there a way I can disable the new message popup windows, but keep the taskbar notification of new messages?

It seems like I can keep both taskbar notifications and popups, or disable both, but not keep taskbar and disable popups at the same time.

I cannot figure out how to disable popups at all anymore.  After the upgrade, there seems to be no way to disable them. I do NOT want messages to fly onto my screen while I'm doing something else. I wish this was easier to disable. Please help!
