Does Screen Sharing Work on Linux Client?

Hi,

I've been trying the Webex Linux client and realized that the share screen button does not appear at all. Everything else works fine. Does this feature have been included in Linux?

I am using CentOS 8 with Webex Version: 41.7.0.19440. Any directions would be appreciated.

PS: I can share my screen in Google Chrome on Linux.

Thanks

As Alfred has pointed out, Wayland does not support screen share. Switching to X11 fixes the problem.

Tested on Ubuntu 24.04 (GNOME), Webex 45.2.0.31846:

  • Screen sharing works on X11

  • Screen sharing is broken on Wayland

This severely limits usability for Linux users, especially since modern GNOME defaults to Wayland by design — and fractional scaling works reliably only there.

It's disappointing to see no mention of Wayland support or Linux-specific improvements in Webex release notes. Given the growing adoption of Linux in enterprise and academic environments, proper Wayland and PipeWire/xdg-desktop-portal support should be a priority.

Please consider addressing this gap or providing a timeline.

Linux users shouldn’t have to downgrade to X11 just to share a screen!

I absolutely agree. This strongly limits the usability of the Webex client as a tool for my work. I feel neglected as a Linux user.

Since I can't switch to X11 I had to use web.webex.com in google chrome to be available to share windows. I would be very happy when the linux webex client would support window sharing in wayland.

Just tested it with a webex to webex call and it worked with 41.7.0.19440.
But I have Ubuntu 20.04.

Hello Marcel, do you use X11 or Wayland??
