Error sharing content

I have recently started teaching online English classes (lockdown just started here in Taiwan). When I try to share content, I sometimes get the message "Media Update: There was a problem trying to update media. Please wait a few moments". Also, in today's class, sometimes my microphone and camera would mysteriously turn itself off and when I tried to turn it back on, I would get this same message. I am using the browser version of WebEx on my Chromebook.

@zekem
Since the browser-Version of Webex does not offer the full feature-set you may want to try getting a Device with the full Webex-client installed.

That's not really a possibility now, I know using the browser isn't ideal, but I didn't really have the chance to go out and shop for a new computer. Online classes started suddenly here.

We encourage our users on chromebooks to download the Webex Meetings app from Google Play. This seems to help the experience. This isn't our documentation, but it is what we recommend: https://support.wcsu.edu/?ht_kb=how-to-install-webex-on-a-chromebook Good luck!

I tried using the app, but I am not able to share my screen there.

Hi @zekem ,

You SHOULD  be able to share your screen using your Chromebook, in both Webex Meetings and Webex (Teams)

  1. Touch the ellipsis (...) at the bottom of the screen in either app
  2. If using Wexex Meetings, touch Share Content (skip this step if using plain Webex)
  3. Touch Share Screen - in the case of Webex Meetings, this means touching the > symbol to the right of the option.

In Pictures - my android device is a phone, but chromebook should be similar.

The "share screen" button is not available on the app for me.

Hi @zekem ,

Well, clearly something is wrong. I have a collegue who presents from his chromebook almost daily. So it can be done. Time to troubleshoot. (The rest is just me typing as I think)

  1. Licencing - seems that all versions of Webex support Screen Sharing.
  2. Permissions - Have you checked Settings > Apps > Webex > Permissions to ensure the obvious settings are enabled (Camera, Microphone, Storage - I can't see anything there that would stop you
  3. App version - have you checked you have the latest version?
  4. Support - maybe it's time to contact support and log a TAC case
