New install of Webex fails: Failed to create log file with error: 2

Hello,

Ubuntu 20.04.4 LTS release

I just downloaded the Webex.deb, ran the apt-get update, and now, instead of being able to launch the program I get:

Failed to create log file with error: 2

Is there some permissions set I need to toggle or the like before it will install/run?

Thank you.

I have the same issue @dkaplowi @dtibbe

I have installed the .deb package (downloaded today) using apt on Debian Buster, kernel 4.19.0-21-amd64. Launching from the launcher icon I get no response. Launching from the terminal (/opt/Webex/bin/CiscoCollabHost) I get the error "Failed to create log file with error: 2".

The directories ~/.local/share/Webex and ~/.local/share/WebexLauncher exist, so @CavanRover hint does not help.

Hello,

Unfortunately, the only solution I could find is to do:
rm -r ~/.local/share/WebexLauncher

It is a heavy hammer, but it works. No one in Cisco/WebEx seems
interested in fixing it, though.

-dkap

Thanks! Unfortunately for me it didn't work. Turns out Webex does not run on older kernels, apparently. I updated to 5.10.x and now it's OK.

For me, when i created the following folder in my HOME directory, it works.

mkdir -p ${HOME}/.local/share/

I assume you're using sudo as well, right?

Hello,

I hadn't been, I was using the desktop click-through, but ... at your
suggestion:

$ sudo /opt/Webex/bin/CiscoCollabHost
[sudo] password for dkaplowi:
Failed to create log file with error: 2

Is there some permissions or directory I have to create first? Or
modify rsyslog.conf or something?

Thank you.
