Users cannot change profile photo in the Webex Desktop and more.

We have users that utilize the Webex Desktop App and they want to change their profile picture. Sometime prior to me joining this company, someone configured AD to allow thumbnail pictures. Let me just say that I'm a Network Engineer, and not a Server/System Administrator so I have very limited knowledge of configuring AD settings for user accounts. That being said we are using Directory Connector to synchronize user accounts to our Webex cloud implementation. I've been racking my brain as to why it appears that I can upload a picture to my profile in the desktop app, or via the web URL, but it always throws an error stating: "Can't upload a profile picture Your profile picture is managed by your organization. To learn more, contact your administrator." and the picture will not upload or change.

I believe the issue has something to do with how we synchronized user accounts via the directory connector. I found in the deployment guide for directory connector, where it states you can allow users to change display names in Webex meetings. It instructs to find the Active Directory Attribute Name "displayName" in the User Attribute Mapping configuration page, and to select "Do not synchronize this attribute" which will allow users to edit their display names. My question is, if we choose the "Do not synchronize this attribute" for the Active Directory Attribute "tumbnailPhoto" will this finally allow users to update their profile picture?

Hi Shawn,
In our environment, anything enabled or set to pull from active directory or a server in the directory connector is not able to be changed by the end-user.
You could try opening a TAC case and speaking to one of the Cisco engineers to see if there is something else to do where you can have an either/or option but our experience has not been that way.

Hi MelissaMcElhatton2725,

I found that in the Directory Connector documentation too and we do have that enabled. I was wondering if the attribute mapping "solution" I was asking about would work while still having the Avatar synchronization enabled?

The setting that you need to disable in the Directory Connector is under Configuration > Avatar
You would want to uncheck the box by enable so that it is not pulling from an internal resource server and will allow staff to upload their own preferred image.
