Multiple SSID configuration on a Cisco Access Point

Resolution

A Service Set Identifier (SSID) is a unique identifier that wireless networking devices use to establish and maintain wireless connectivity. Multiple Cisco Access Points (APs) on a network or sub-network can use the same SSIDs. SSIDs are case sensitive and can contain up to 32 alphanumeric characters. Spaces cannot be included in SSIDs.

Up to 16 SSIDs can be configured on the Cisco 1200 series AP, and different configuration settings can be assigned to each SSID. All of the SSIDs are active at the same time; that is, client devices can associate to the AP through any of the SSIDs. These are the settings that can be assigned to each SSID:

• VLAN    
  
• Client Authentication Method

Note: To use more than one SSID, VLAN must be configured.
