Changes

  • It has a new feature, to show “compensated” nearby power, based on the difference between the heard power, and the actual TX power (nearby is sent normally at level 1, but AP may be on a lower power. This is working for 2.4 GHz, but on 5.0 it still needs additional checks to calculate for enabled bands and current WLC country code

    • 60014, RF: AP has channel utilization for X GHz radio higher than a threshold of YY. This reports if either TX + RX utilization or total radio utilization (CCA) is higher than a configured threshold. Default is 40%
    • 50019, Mobility: For RF adjacent controllers, it is necessary that the country selection list match, to permit proper RF grouping. This validates that all controllers in the same mobility group, have the same country list. This is only relevant if they are RF adjacent. (i.e., Their APs are neighbors with signal better than -80 dBm)
    • 40042,Voice: Mac filtering in voice WLANs is not recommended due to potential delays on association process/roaming". For WLANs with voice services, mac filtering can introduce delays on roaming, as association/reassociation requests need to be validated against AAA before they are finally answered.
    • Checks if mac filtering has same status in each WLAN, across all controllers in the same mobility group
  • Added Features:
    • RF problem finder has additional metrics to play with specific weights, making it easier to find specific issues on groups of APs
    • WLAN table shows MAC filtering column

Apr 30 2008 (1.4(9))

  • New features:
    • RF Index

This allows "quick spot" of problematic APs. The tool will calculate co-channel, side channel interference and noise, also channel utilization and client association SNR, and generate a metric for each AP. APs on top having a too high metric, may point to potential RF issues, which may lead to voice quality problems. The idea of this is to quickly find areas in the deployment that may need immediate attention. Also can work as a "RF health" indicator after changes, comparing the values of different sh run-config taken. All values on the metric can be modified, to allow for the user to make more emphasis on side channels, or on co-channel ,etc. This is an experimental module, so comments are needed :-). Available under RF Analysis menu

  • New AP checks
      • 20015 AP: SSH is enabled on this access point. Depending on security policies this may or not be correct
      • 20016 AP: Telnet is enabled on this access point. Depending on security policies this may or not be correct
      • 20017 AP: Syslog messages are sent to broadcast address, if there are errors reported by many APs, and there are too many APs per vlan, this can cause broadcast storms. It is better to configure to individual server
      • 20018 AP: Local credentials to access access point CLI are not configured. It is recommended to configure to Username/passwords to all APs
  • Changed AP check:
Now side channel check reports current channel and nearby AP channel plus the power:
60013,RF: AP on channel 153 has a neighbour on a side channel for 5 GHz radio, channel: 157 with power -71, Mac: 00:1d:46:fc:95:c0. Effect depends

It is strongly recommended to use one on the range of 239.0.0.0-239.255.255.255, not including for

                 239.0.0.x and  239.128.0.x.

Hi Javier,

I can't find the little tool WLC Config Catcher to help me capture the configs. The Config Analyzer seems like a very good tool, but it's very time-consuming to capture the configs with ssh if you have a lot of APs.

Hi

I stopped the config catcher development as using a WCS, with a command line template, can provide similar functionality.

Also, on any newer code build (4.2.207.0/6.0/7.0) you can do "config paging disable" then a sh run, and you can collect all run config output without any key press.

Javier,

In the output under AP Messages and for a warning 60011, RF: AP has a neighbour on same channel...with power -XX, does this reflect the Heard Power or Compensated Heard Power values?

Thanks for creating this fantastic utility!

Anthony
