Max Number of Wireless Bridge Non-Root to Non-Root

I've been setting up an outdoor autonomous wireless network and have a question on the max number of non-root to non-root bridges can be setup.  I know the rule of thumb for mesh is 4 hops with 3 recommended, but is there a max number for autonomous bridging?  I've attached a drawing of what we have now and it's working fine with 1242's on the 2.4 Ghz b/g radios

I would still stick with the 3-4 RoT.

Remember with bridging like this you lose 50% of throughput each hop.
