Hello,
I have two licenses on a WLC 5508 "base-ap-count permenant 100 Count medium Inactive" and "base-ap-count permanent 150 count medium In Use". Should both the 100 and 150 be added up to make 250? Why is the 100 license inactive? There is no option to make it active.

Any insight into this wouuld be greatly appreciated.

Both 5 license and 10 license have the dropdown arrow available to delete. Is it ok to delete them?
vWLC came with 5 AP then I added two 5 AP licenses.

You don't have to delete any of those, but if you feel like you want to, then only delete the license that are inactive.

Hi Colin,
I have the same issue, after upgrading a WLC5508-50 with a 25 AP adder license, did you ever work out how to activate the 'inactive' license?
Cheers.
Alex.

Alex,
So when you added the 25 addr to your existing WLC5508-50, what was your total ap count? If it is 75 then your good. You will see the other license go inactive. If you couldn't add the 24 addr license, then open up a TAC case with licensing.

Thanks Scott,
I have opened a TAC case - Base-AP-Count licence is still 50.
Cheers,
Alex.

Yeah… I have had issues also with the addr and eventually they will get you the right license file.

I dont have remote access to the WLC, going back today, but from memory, the inactive license that appeared was a qty 50, not a qty 25, so Iin fairness, maybe I checked the wrong thing when activating the license on the CCO. What ever the issue, I'm sure it's 'gonna be painful getting the correct license now!
;-)
Cheers,
Alex.

It is! I have had to go that route many times with various clients and it’s a pain. I actually had to get a Wireless TAC engineer explain to them what the addr license is for. When I open the license using a text editor, I can see it is a base for 25 (for an example). Well it should be in your case a base of 75. Even though the license will take, it will not downgrade your WLC to 25, but keep it at 50 and the 25 becomes inactive. It might be better to open a tac case with a Wireless engineer maybe.

Hi, Colin,
There are "base" and "adder" licenses.
See "Understanding Cisco 5508 Wireless LAN Controller Licensing" document:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps10315/products_tech_note09186a0080b78104.shtml
So, you need an "adder" license to increase number of AP.
Cheers, Irina
