Confusion on leaf port properties if not in Interface Selector

Hello all,

Say I have a leaf port (not a FEX port, but a leaf port) that is not part of any Interface selector (so no infraPortBlk objects reference or include that leaf port). What default properties will such an "orhpaned" leaf port adopt (speed, LLDP, etc.) ?

I had read that the default speed of leaf ports was 10 gig, but we have a 1gig SFP connected to a leaf port that is not part of any Interface Selector, and the leaf port is up and working at 1gig speed. Is this because the leaf port adopted the 1gig speed due to the SFP, or is there some hidden default Interface Selector that "orphaned" ports get put into?

Hi @vv0bbLeS

If you do not hard set the speed via a interface policy, the interface will auto-negotiate the speed. Of course the local and remote SFP plays a role here.

Leaf201# show int e 1/48 status
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Port Name Status Vlan Duplex Speed Type
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
 Eth1/48 -- notconnect trunk full inherit SFP-H10GB-CU5M

Leaf201# show int e 1/48
Ethernet1/48 is down (notconnect)
admin state is up, Dedicated Interface
  Hardware: 100/1000/10000/25000/auto Ethernet, address: a0b4.3943.4ff0 (bia a0b4.3943.4ff0)
  full-duplex, 10 Gb/s, media type is 10G
  Auto-Negotiation is turned on

Stay safe,

Sergiu
