VLAN stretching without MSO or NDO

Hi all,

I was asked to stretch a VLAN between 2 ACI fabrics that were configured with a NDO about 2 years ago. Now the ND cluster seems crashed: the nodes returns k8s API errors, Proxy errors, 404 not found and other problems.

Now, before troubleshoot the situation to restore the multi-site and create the streaching, I am asking if I can do the stretching without an orchestrator, I should only add a VLAN to the group of VLAN to streach.

BGP sessions for l2evpn transport are up and running (the streached vlan configured years ago works fine).

I know that L2 stretching "by hand" is deprecated, but the sites are in dismission in the next months, so I was asked to do the minimum amount of activities on them.

EDIT:

Looking at the already present stretched BD I saw this in the policy conf:

Could I create the same BD:EPG on both ACI sites and flag the options about the streaching?

Thanks,

Irenof

Hi @irenof

Yes, you can manually stretch a VLAN between two ACI fabrics without using the NDFC (Nexus Dashboard Fabric Controller), especially since the sites are being decommissioned soon and you want to minimize the effort. However, this approach is not ideal and is considered deprecated, as you mentioned. Since the BGP EVPN sessions are already up and running, and the stretched VLANs configured previously are working fine, you can proceed with manual configuration.

Hi @AshSe thank you for your reply.

The manual configuration in just check the flags I posted in my question right:

- BD stretched to remote site

- Allow BUM traffic on stretched BD

- WAN bandwidth optimization

Unfortunatly I cannot do tests.

Sorry I didn't get what you mean.

When we talk about “manual configuration,” in APICs what do we mean? What configuration has to be done? I think I need to check the boxes referring to BD stretching in the Advanced BD Policy:

Am I thinking wrong?

Thanks

Hi, I continued to find a solution to create the stretching manually, but I came accross this statement:

For waht I understand, the NDO exchanges the mapping in order to handle correctly the translation between local and remote VNIs and pcTags.

I am currently not able to this manually.

Do you have any hint?

Thanks
