check this link to boot the device from rommon

http://docwiki.cisco.com/wiki/Cisco_Application_Control_Engine_%28ACE%29_Module_Troubleshooting_Guide,_Release_A2%28x%29_--_Troubleshooting_ACE_Boot_Issues

change the confing reg to 0 to boot ACE in ROMMON and select the image you want to boot

ACE_module5/Admin(config)# config-register 0

rommon 1 > confreg 1
rommon 2 > BOOT=disk0:c6ace-t1k9-mzg.3.0.0_A2_2_0.bin
rommon 3 > sync

If there is no image on ACE then you you need to have the image on the
Sup720 filesystem, typically disk0:, set the boot device module string,
and then reset ACE so that it comes up at the rommon prompt.  From there
you can boot eobc: to get ACE up and running again.  Once it is up we
copy the image to the local image: filesystem so ACE can
boot without having to use the Sup720 or entering manual commands inside
rommon.

cat6k(config)# boot device module slot_number disk[0 | 1]:image_name
rommon 6> boot eobc:

Hi Sivaksiv,

Thanks for prompt response.

I have ACE appliance and not module so booting from SUP is not possible. Also I have two queries:

a. How to bring ACE appliance to ROMMON mode? My ace is continuously booting so changing the config register value is not possible. Also break keyword is not helping.

b. Even after rommon mode how to upgrade the firmware? Is xmodem possible?

Regards,

ACE appliance doesn't have rommon mode like IOS.

When it boots up, you can see the following GRUB menu.

Please try to boot with ACE_APPLIANCE_RECOVERY_IMAGE.bin image.

    GNU GRUB  version 0.95  (639K lower / 3144640K upper memory)

***************************************************************************

* localboot(ACE_APPLIANCE_RECOVERY_IMAGE.bin)                             *

kernel=(hd0,1)/c4710ace-mz.A3_2_2.bin ro root=LABEL=/ auto console=ttyS0,9600n8
quiet bigphysarea=32768
   [Linux-bzImage, setup=0x1400, size=0xbc09a00]

Any idea? Please help

Any one  can help please?

Please folks anyone can't help?

open a case and ask for a RMA your device seems to be deffective

Nah I doubt it, there is many thing that can we done before saying it's officialy DOA...and how you know it's DOA...who ever said I just got it.

No offense...Also we can try to format the whole CF card; but the question will be what do we put back on it?

Thanks

Since we don't support to open ace appliance, formatting the whole CF card is not supported.

If you have already formated the disk, please open TAC SR and replace hardware.

If ace appliance cannot boot up with recovery image, you would be better off opening TAC SR

and replacing hardware. I think it's a hardware failure.

Since your box keeps rebooting and cannot issue any command, troubleshooting is very difficult.

If you want to try troubleshooting, please press F2 (or Esc + 2) during BIOS menu.

And then, press Advanced -> Event Log Configuration -> View Event Log.

You can check event log. Unexpected event may occur when hardware is broken.

FYI, I've handled FA case which stuck while reading image as below.

The result of failure analysis was motherboard failure.

I'm not sure your case is same case with my customer since you copied a new bin image by hand.

kernel=(hd0,1)/c4710ace-mz.A3_x_x.bin ro root=LABEL=/ auto console=ttyS0,9600n8
quiet bigphysarea=32768
   [Linux-bzImage, setup=0x1400, size=0xbc09a00]

Anyway, I think hardware replacement is the best solution.

Yuji

Thansk yushimaz for your response, my doubt are over the information in the CF card been corrupted or what so ever....so I will go ahead and open a ticket with the TAC to see how will the replace the information in the compaq flash. I will keep you posted on this. But my guess is if we have the right bin the ACE will boot up, I am pretty sure.

Thanks Sir
