Cisco WAAS SMB Accelerator stats showing huge server request response times

Hi all,

I'm hoping some you may be able to shine some light on a problem we are currently experiencing.

We have Cisco WAAS devices at each of our sites and they have been working fine for some time.

Since the start of the year we've been receiving a number of calls relating to all users at some sites really struggling to explore network file shares as well as massive delays when saving/opening/working with documents/spreadsheets/CAD files etc. We've had some people wait it out and it has taken nearly an hour to open a small (150KB) file. Nothing has really been changed on the network and the affected WAAS's didn't all show the same symptoms at the same time. All WAAS devices are running the same policy.

We have been working around this issue by removing the WCCP redirects and this instantly resolves (well, more works around) the problem. We have also tried to disable to SMB accelerator which also resolves the problem so it looks like the issue lies with SMB.

I've seen SMB accelerator stats on a known bad device showing:

Average Response Time (ms) for Requests Served Locally: 251
Average Response Time (ms) for Requests Sent to File Servers 382766

On a known good device which is accessing the same network file shares showing:

Average Response Time (ms) for Requests Served Locally: 0
Average Response Time (ms) for Requests Sent to File Servers 25

We have a Cisco TAC open at the moment. This has been open for nearly a month and we are no further forward really.

Does anybody have any ideas on this one?

Thanks

Hi Lewis,

Are we talking the same servers used (by the two sites : "bad" & "good") here ?

Does the "bad" & "good" sites use the same "Core" WAAS in the server location, if you have more than one ?

What SMB versions are you using, and is the SMB signed or encrypted ?

Best Regards

Finn
