How can i up/downgrade ECDN-to-ACNS or ECDN-to-Cache Engine?

I would like to use CE507 for Cache Engine.

So I tried to find how to do, I found some documents.

The document sait that if i want to upgrade from ECDN to Cache Engien, I should use "ECDN-TO-ACNS-4.1.1-K9.mata" and "ECDN-TO-ACNS-4.1.1-K9.upg".

But I counldn't fine these files in the Software download homepage.

How can i accomplish that?

Hi

I've had bit of fun upgrading and downgrading content engines to older releases and from older releases.

From ACNS-4.X you can use the META/UPG files from the CDM GUI or the .bin file from the CLI. It works upgrading to either 5.0.X or 5.1.X.

Likewise if your downgrading from 4.x or 5.x use the BIN from the CLI.

The only time I ever used the GUI (UPG/META) was from 2.5 to 4.x (because there is no CLI on 2.x). One thing I did discover with the January bug on 4.2.11.5 code is if you wanted to upgrade to 4.2.13.1 via the GUI it wouldnt' work. It seems the GUI can't detect a minor release version has changed and perform the GUI.

With the 2.5 you need to make your CE part of the CDM using the "Wizard" and when the CDM is associated to the CE use the CDM GUI to upgrade using the META/UPG.

Thank you for helping.

Why i couln't find in the "software download" web page?

I really curious about that.

If you got to the download page for ACNS you have to go to the crypto 3DES option at the top of the page when you get to the download images. All the .bin .meta and .upg images are under the crypto section because of Cisco's export restrictions "I believe".

Cheers

Mark

Yeah...i got it.

But, i couln't find the crypto 3DES optinon in the download page...

That has to be your CCO permissions then, as I understand it only authorised partners can get direct access to 3DES images.

We have the same problem with our customers trying to download 3DES images via PICA access. We can get them as a Cisco Gold partner but they can't without signing additional paperwork.

Can you get the images via your distributor?

Hi. i have a problem.

I just upgrade CDM from ECDN to ACNS.

But the CDM doesn't work properly.

So i connected to CDM via console.

The cache displayed ".........."

I can login into the CDM.

I typed this command "ifconfig", but the CDM didn't ip address.

The CE507 doesn't upgrade...

What happen?

It sounds like its running the "Ruby" upgrade process which does take a while (like 30-mins to an hour) if you keep the console plugged in it should come back with a few more messages and telling you its doing it. It does take a while to run this conversion process.

As I said earlier I upgraded 7 CE's and 2 CDM's using this process with no problems. If you can you may want to reset to factory defaults and re-config the CDM again once you've upgraded it. I had a few weird things happen under ACNS 4.2.X like the FTP would only allway admin to login to the correct folder, no matter how much I messed with the settings it stuck, solution factory defaults and re-config.

One more bit of advice, you don't need to use the wizard utility to register the CE's to the CDM or even set the CDM up. You can use the CMS enable and CMS IP commands from scratch to set it all up.

If you've got as far as it sounds like you are it will sort itself out if it hasn't already. Leave it switched on with the console, also if you do reboot it while its in the early stages of this process it doesn't appear to upset the upgrade process to much.

Thank you...but i don't understan...sorry...

I'm gonna say what i want to do at the first time.

Acutualy, I want to test caching redirect with wccp.

but i have CE507(v3-0-3-rc7) and CDM(v3-0-3-rc7).

in my opinion, CE507 does not have cache engine function. therefore i tried to upgrade Cache engine with CE507.

But, I couln't success it...

At this time, i try to recovery CE's engine.

because, CE507 didn't work properly.

i saw "software recovery procedures" document.

i followed it...but i don't know what kind image required for CE....

HI,

sounds a lot as if the disk got corrupted or is damaged. When the CE boots up and you are plugged to the console there is as far as I can remeber a step where you are asked if you want to use a rescue image(downloadable from CCO where the other images are). I guess you might need it or is the box recovering after some time? If not try the rescue image and follow the rescue steps described in e.g. http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/conntsw/ps491/products_maintenance_guide_chapter09186a0080080bff.html

If this procedure does not help you might havr a disk which can not be repaired by the system.

Btw did the ce run with the old software before you started upgrading?

Kind Regards,

Joerg

Hi.

this error message displayed again and again...

In my opion, new image does not fit the CE.

i really curious about what kind image fit to CE507 for working properly?

Hi

It looks like its attempting to run the Ruby process, If you dig deep on CCO there is a document entitled performing an ECDN upgrade on 4.x software manually, basically it takes you through the steps of mounting up the linux partitions and running the processes manually from within the linux operating system under ECDN. I found from experience it does only work with the version of ECDN specified in the document, it makes a lot of references to this process known as RUBY which from what i've seen *I think* is the actual upgrade of software and disk partitions from 2.X/3.x to version 4.x.

Looking at the error message it looks like it may be trying to perform that upgrade process but disk 00 (first HD) is faulty so as Joerg explains it can't complete the process.

I can think of two things I'd probably try and do, the first is take out the first disk and put the second disk into the first slot (if you have a second disk). The other option if you get the chance is to use the recovery image option and pick a 4.X .sysimg file and try the recovery procedure).

It still may not work if you have a faulty disk because it can't repartition it, its probably not supported but the CE disks in a 507 are just standard IBM 18GB hotswap drives in Cisco rails if that ever becomes an option.

For info I did some upgrades on 507's with only one disk, you install the 2nd disk in and boot the CE up and can then see the extra space on the CE without having to do anything special, you would still need to create the partitions though as you have 18GB of unused space added. I only mention this as its the basis for my theory on being able to swap the drives around.
