Hello team,
we are experiencing high percentage of input errors on inlineport1/1/wan interface. The router and WAE side are hardcoded to 100/full. 1/1/lan interface does not ecperience this type of issue. 1/1/wan operational status is 100/full. We are using 4.1.5c IOS version and HW part number is WAVE-274-K9.
Are there any other reasons for these errors except the speed/duplex misconfiguration which doesnt seem to be an issue here?
Many thanks!
Regards,
Stan

Hi Stan,
router (F0/0) - WAVE (inlineport 1/1/wan) > crossover
WAVE (inlineport 1/1/lan) - switch (F0/1) > straight
Yes, that's correct.

Hi Stan,
it looks like either this is duplex issue / NIC HW problem. You may want to change cable on the interface and set the duplex settings correctly.
If the issue continues, you may want to open a TAC case for NIC replacement.
Further information about setting up duplex settings on WAVE devices can be found here: Cabling
One thing you can do to narrow down the interface problem is to switch the pair from 1/1 to 1/0 any other inline pair and see if the issue continues. this way you will be able to narrow down whether the problem is with router / switch interface OR cabling OR Wae inline interface.
Hope this helps.
Regards.

Hello,
Thank you for the info!
I just want to confirm what cables I have to use to connect to WAVE... got kind of confused. So I am using FastEthernet connections:
router (F0/0) - WAVE (inlineport 1/1/wan) > crossover
WAVE (inlineport 1/1/lan) - switch (F0/1) > straight
Is this 100% correct please ?

Stan

Hi Stan,
I have some 274 up and running.
What we found in some cases you should have an Crossover and in some case an straight-through cable between the WAE and router.
We have also found that in some case you should use the autosense on on both devices and some cases 100 full in both.
It is hard to get up and running, but when it's up then it will work 100%.

Hi all,
thanks for the updates.
We have also discovered another issue on another site with performance...Here is the scenario:
We are using WAVE-574-K9, IOS version 4.2.3.7. We have Cisco router 1841 connected to 1/1/wan port of the WAVE, switch HP 2650 connected to 1/1/lan port. During the installation, switch and router side was hardcoded to 100/full and also InlineGroup1/1 had the same config. However when we connected the WAVE, line protocol on F0/0 on router went down. So we changed the configuration on WAE to autosense but it negotiated to half/100 on both sides. This was corrected by configuring switch and router to auto/auto... So currently every device is in autonegotiating status.
Unfortunately we experienced very poor performance so we shut down inlinegroup1/1 but the poor performance issue has not been solved by this action...
Is it possible that Inline card is faulty or is there any other factor that can cause this issue?
Many thanks!
Regards,
Stan

Hi Stan,
Duplex issues can affect the performance and through put heavily. Having interfaces runnign at 100 / full or gig speed should address the issue if it is WAAS / inline issue. If the traffic is in pass thru or if the inline interface is shutdown, the NIC in WAAS acts as L2 bridge. Basically, from that point onwards, WAE inline interface can not be blamed unless it is a bad physical connection.
Hope this helps.
Regards.

Hi Stan,
router (F0/0) - WAVE (inlineport 1/1/wan) > crossover
WAVE (inlineport 1/1/lan) - switch (F0/1) > straight
Yes, that's correct.
