Interface failed error on WAE-674

SK Ameen .

Hi,

We are getting "Network interface error on WAE -674 ". By doing self-diagnostic test the alarm , the alarm is for Gi 2/0 on the WAE which is down as per WAAS CM.

This interface is not in use and the primary-interface for the WAE is Gi 1/0.

When I tried to make the interface UP by doing "no shut" it is throwing below message . But the link and protocol are up / up for this interface.

This interface can't be brought up

(No IP address, bridge-group, channel-group or standby configuration). This interface can't be brought up
(No IP address, bridge-group, channel-group or standby configuration).

Regards,

Ameen.

Hi Ameen,

If the interface is not in use, it is expected that you cannot bring it up. On WAAS you can only bring an interface up if it has one of the following configured (as the message is saying):

  • IP address
  • Bridge group
  • Channel group
  • Standby configuration

Daniel

Hi Daniel,

Thanks for the info.

The interface is shown as SHUTDOWN in WAAS CM and the runn-config for this interface also shows it as SHUTDOWN. But

sh int gi 2/0 | i Link

Link State: Interface is up,line protocol up

We didnot get such alarms for this interface earlier  and nothing is connected to the interface.

Regards,

Ameen.

Hi Ameen,

That's strange, if it's really shutdown in the configuration, it should not show as up.

I would suggest you to open a TAC service request to have it investigated further.

Regards

Daniel
