Just got the CSM installed and was trying to upgrade the code level to 4.2.
The configuration guide for 4.2 says you can upgrade via sup-bootflash, pcmcia card or tftp. Haven't tried tftp yet, but here's the problems I'm having so far:
The syntax for upgrading via sup-bootflash is "upgrade 127.0.0.zz csm_image.bin", where zz is 12 if the sup engine is in slot1 or zz is 22 if the sup is in slot2. Since I'm running a sup720, I have no choice but to have the sup720 installed in slot 5 or 6. What number do I use for zz then?
If I try to upgrade via pcmcia, one of the first steps is to enable the tftp server to supply the image to the flash card with the command "tftp-server slotx:csm_image.bin" However, the slotx option is not available to me (running IOS 12.2(18)SXD5).
How then do I upgrade???
Thanks in advance,
Eric

Eric,
The sup720 in slot 5 will be 127.0.0.51 and in slot 6 127.0.0.61.
You can do a telnet to one of these addresses from the sup and you will see where you get.
Then, the sup720 does not have slot:, but disk: [at least mine does :-) ]
gdufour-cat6k-2(config)#tftp-server ?
bootflash: Allow URL file TFTP load requests
const_nvram: Allow URL file TFTP load requests
disk0: Allow URL file TFTP load requests
disk1: Allow URL file TFTP load requests
null: Allow URL file TFTP load requests
nvram: Allow URL file TFTP load requests
sup-bootflash: Allow URL file TFTP load requests
sup-image: Allow URL file TFTP load requests
sup-microcode: Allow URL file TFTP load requests
system: Allow URL file TFTP load requests
Do a dir disk0: or disk1: or a sho flash all to locate the file.
If nothing works, simpy configure a vlan on the CSM and upgrade via TFTP from a server.
Regards,
Gilles.

Gilles,
The 127.0.0.51 & 61 addresses solved the problem. I also was able to upgrade via disk0: - not sure why I didn't see that option the first time around with "tftp-server ?"
Thanks!
Eric
