Replacement disks for WAE-674-K9 and WAVE-574-K9

Hi,

I have a couple of devices which aren't supported under a SmartCare or SmartNet contract and their disks have failed.  On speaking to Cisco I have discovered that the replacement disks are no longer being sold for WAE-674-K9 and WAVE-574-K9 so we are a bit stuck (see attached EoL/EOS notificiation http://www.cisco.com/en/US/partner/prod/collateral/contnetw/ps5680/ps6474/eol_c51-700260.html ).  If we take out a new support contract we will be able to get replacement disks but this may not be possible.

The below is the details from one of the failed disks..

Device #1

         Device is a Hard drive

         State                         : Defunct

         Supported                     : Yes

         Transfer Speed                : Defunct

         Reported Channel,Device       : 0,1

         Vendor                        : IBM-ESXS

         Model                         : ST3300657SS

         Firmware                      : BA52

         Serial number                 : 3SJ04HCW

         World-wide name               : 5000C500094CE7BC

         Size                          : 0 MB

         Write Cache                   : Unknown

         FRU                           : 42D0568

         PFA                           : No

If I was to buy a generic 3.5" SAS disk from Seagate or HP for example would they work in the WAAS?  Or does it have to be Cisco?

Thanks,

RB

Hi Robert,

As a Cisco employee. I'm maybe not in the best position to answer this but here is what I can say:

A generic disk *might* work as long as it has the proper capacities (SMART for instance) but if you do use one, your device will not be supported anymore.

In case you run into any other issue on it, you will be on your own so I would do this as a last resort keeping in mind that it is not guaranteed to work.

Regards,

Nicolas

Hi there,

Thanks for this.  I suppose it isn't supported now so we don't have anything to loose!

Thanks,
Rob

There is embedded firmware with the Cisco drives and the third party drives will not work.  I think you will have better luck purchasing the proper hard drive via stocking warehouses, the product IDs for the hard drives are:

For WAE-574 the product ID is: DISK-SATA2-500GB

and

For WAE-674 the product ID is: DISK-300GB-6/7SER

via google I found a few here:
