Hi,
I am new to WAAS and i am trying to upgrade the software of the device. When I went through the documents I could see it says select ftp or http option from the dropdown menu and give the image name(procedure to spacify the image file location in WAAS).
I would like to know what is the difference here in using ftp and http; which scenario I have to select ftp and in which scenario I have to select http
Thank You

Hi Richard,
the software file URL (http or ftp) is the location on your network where you will be placing the upgrade *.bin file. Once you download the *.bin file from CCO, you can place the file on an internal http server or ftp server.
Example for http:
(choose http in the drop-down) TAClab.cisco.com/waas/WAAS-4.x.x.x-K9.bin
Example for ftp:
(choose ftp in the drop-down) 10.10.10.10/waas/WAAS-4.x.x.x-K9.bin
This location instructs WAAS as to where the software image can be downloaded from.
Regards,
Scott

Unless you are running a http or ftp server on your laptop, you will need to manually ftp the image to every WAAS device.
First, enable ftp on the WAE devices via config mode on the CLI:
inetd enable ftp
You can then ftp to each of your WAE devices and put the file in the default directory (local1). Make sure to transfer the image in binary.
Once uploaded to the WAE device, you can install the image via the CLI:
install WAAS-4.x.x.x-K9.bin
Having a local http or ftp server is preferable if you have multiple WAE devices.
Regards,
Scott
