why cisco implemented 'ip uncond-bridging'?

If I am not wrong, prio version 6, CSS can do bridging without any problem. After version 6, you have to use 'ip uncond-bridging' to overrite the default behavior (routing first, then bridging).

This caused quite some problems in our upgrading.

I dont understand why Cisco implemente such a feature, i.e. routing first. What's the purpose?

Sorry but this command existed even before version 6.x and it has always been necessary to use it to force bridging first than routing.

This was not a Cisco decision but something imposed to us by the company that created the CSS [Arrowpoint].

Regards,

Gilles.

thanks

But I did not find it in version 4/5 user guide.

probably only documented in version 6.x

but I'm 100% sure it is present in version 5.0

Gilles.

thanks. How about version 4?

We just upgraded one CSS from version 4 to version 6, after that we faced some problem. Suspecting it could be due to the new feature. Maybe it was not in version 4...

the command was introduced in version R4.01 B50s.

Bug CSCdt26207 , changed the behavior in 4.1B20 so that

the CSS tries to route every packet.

It was not configurable.

Then, we created the command 'ip uncond-bridging' in version 4.1B50s so you can chose the behavior that you need.

Gilles.

I C. thanks!
