Global categories

Can we get a global categories lists not just on a per customer basis? For example, there is no category for “Printer” so I have to add it to each location. IMHO, Printer should be a default category, but regardless, I’d like to be able to create my own categories that apply to every customer.

Hi Brian, thanks for the feedback. Are there other categories besides Printers you want to see? You are talking about more categories that would sit along side Infrastructure, Telephony, Computer, and Unknown?

I don't know yet, but printers are definitely one, imaging devices could be another, CNC/mechanical cutting equipment could be too (we have a customer with several large footprint CNC cutting devices as well as other computer-controlled equipment that wouldn't fall into any of the default categories).  It wouldn't really matter if we could do it globally then each VAR and add/edit their own for their target audience.

We've also previosuly considered an enchancement to OnPlus to automatically set the category for a device whenever you choose one of the generic device types. Below is a list of all the current 'generic' device types that can be selected for a device, and the category that we believe each might fit into as a 'default' selection whenever the device type is set to one of the generic types.

Just including these here to aid in this discussion, in our first pass we had lumped Printers into a new 'Imaging' category. I really like the idea of VAR-wide global categories!
