CSCvh98496 - Fan failure errors after upgrade to 8.3.143.0 release

Hi all,

We already identified that WLC 5520 hit bug CSCvh98496 in version 8.3.143.0. Now the question, is this a false positive or a real fan failure?.

Regards.

The problem was solved by upgrading the WLC 5520 to version 8.5.135.0.

As we checked, the bug causes a false positive since the fan does not stop working at any time but generates fan alerts.

1. Raise a Cisco TAC Case so TAC can positively verify if you're hitting this bug as well as TAC providing the latest recommended firmware fix (engineering or not).
2. Go into the CIMC to verify if the fan is really faulty or not.
NOTE: It is wise to update the CIMC firmware regularly.

Thanks Leo.

So, let's asumme we are hitting bug CSCvh98496. Does this particular bug cause a false positive or a real fan failure?. That's what I need to know.

There are two ways to determine if this is false or real:
1. "Mk 1 Eyeball" or visual inspection; or
2. CIMC

The problem was solved by upgrading the WLC 5520 to version 8.5.135.0.

As we checked, the bug causes a false positive since the fan does not stop working at any time but generates fan alerts.
