Hello,
I have a question regarding switch updates.
Since we have two locations with multiple floors and two patch rooms per floor, I would like to split the updates.
To make the process more time-efficient, I would like to upload the new IOS-versions to the switches in advance.
However, I noticed in Cisco Catalyst Center that I cannot distribute the software. Why is that?
I can create a task under "Image Update" and prepare everything there—but only for a few switches at a time.
Switch type: Cisco Catalyst 9300L
Catalyst Center version: 2.3.7.10

I think you are looking in the wrong place, you do not need to create a task for image upgrade under tasks,
you do this using software distribution service

you must have downloaded the desired image for a hardware series at forehand
- mark this image as "golden" for your environment
- let Catalyst center scan the devices for images that needs update (manually or existing scheduled job)
- select devices that needs update (can be mixed hardware and /or mixed image version)
- start update from here

Thank you for your replies.
I have now figured out the problem myself.
Unfortunately, I don’t find the manual to be particularly well designed.
If I start a new task and skip the activation step, I get exactly what I need—namely, just uploading the software.
This could also be added as a note in the process 🙂

i focused on the "only for a few switches at a time."
