I changed the name of a host after it was configured and put on dns, but the old name is still showing in DNS. Should I do a

no ip name-server

no ip domain name

then reboot and set the name-server and domain name back up to get it to refresh on dns with the new host name

new hostname: xxxxx3650subxx

old hostname that's still showing

C:\admin>nslookup 172.19.123.123
Name: xxxxxxx9300subxxx.domain.here-censored
Address: 172.19.123.123

the IP is still the same, just is showing the old name there

@macbrave

ipconfig /flushdns

and you would execute this on the switch? i thought this was for windows only.

Are the SW is DNS server?

If not then you need to check where is dns server and from there change hostname-ip

MHM

This is for windows only. If you added the name to IP properly on the DNS and it did not reflect on your windows machine, this is how you can force the update on the machine.

I dont believe the switch has anything with this.  it should be between DNS and host. Unless you are trying to access from the switch.

the name server is showing as a globaldns1.company-name-censored.net. is there a way to console into the dns server? if i force remove the name server and domain name, then reboot, do you think that would reset it on the name server and update the name by force?

Give me a bit more context, please. What you are tyring to do? Do you manage the DNS server? Which DNS server is it? What you are trying to access?

I'm just trying to update the name in DNS so that the correct name is displayed when doing an nslookup. But, it's still showing the old hostname before it was updated.

Which DNS server is it?
