Understanding Application Experience in Catalyst Center

Hi all,

I have configured some 1111 routers to send netflow and application experience data to Catalyst Center.

I see the data coming into the Catalyst Center, but I am not sure if I understand how the data is collected.

My basic understanding of protocols like http and other TCP based protocols are that the router is looking into the TCP flow and finding packet loss based on retransmissions. Latensy is based on ACK and replies in both directions to see how long delay we have from the collector to the client and the server as shown here:

But what I don't understand is what the delay within the application means, and how it is calculated.

Does anyone have any information on how the Application Network Latency data is collected?
