Hello,
I am trying to upgrade our UCS firmware from version 2.0(6d) to 4.0(2c). Can I upgrade from 2.0 to 4.0 directly, or do I need an intermediate step ?

You should be able to do it.
Incase of all M4 servers for releases greater than 2.0(4c), you can directly move to 4.0(x)
Please refer the release note below.

Where do you see you can upgrade from 2.0(6d) to 4.0(x) every cisco guide says you have to have two jumps to upgrade. Even the link you sent says only if you have a C460 can you go from 2.0 to 4.0
