Question: Network Performance\Throughput expected in CML

I've setup a virtual lab using a virtual machine on a LAN running through a basic network in CML to reach the internet. I'm getting extremely slow throughput results under 1Mbps. 

Should the performance of the devices in CML be comparable to that of those in the real world? Is there some way to adjust the device or CML server environment to allow for better performance?

I found the answer.... Unfortunate that Cisco does this given the cost of CML - it limits some of the modeling applications.

The images bundled with CML are demo images, so the throughput is limited depending on the type of image, following are throughput of various images in CML. Please note this is not a limitation of CML, you can apply image specific production licenses to increase the throughput.

 

IOSRv - 1 to 1.25 Mbps

 

IOSv - 2.5 mbps

 

IOSvl2 - 2 mbps

 

NXOSv 7K - 14 to 16 mbps

 

IOSXRv 9000 - 150 kbps

 

CSR 1000v - 1 to 1.25 mbps

 

ASAv - 100kbps

 

NXOSv 9000 - 4mbps

CML is lab simulation/emulation and gets your Lab solution just build and understand your solution works.

 

It all depends on how these setups are done, and what device you testing.

 

can you explain more about the setup, what device is this, and where is the destination you getting 1MB only?

How to Ask The Cisco Community for Help

My understanding is that Cisco Packet Tracer is a simulation where CML is an emulation of the same software that runs on the physical hardware. This being the case it is in effect behaving and acting as if it is a router or a switch - it is just a virtualized version.

I am using VMWare Workstation. I have a Windows 10 workstation that when connected via NAT (in VMWare) directly gets 70Mbps which is my full internet connection speed. While I do have a more complicated CML lab I want to test this with - at present I am only using 1 IOSV router. 

I changed the NIC on the Windows 10 workstation to LAN segment to isolate it, forcing it to run through the emulated lab. I then have added a bridged interface (bridge1) to the CML server. On the single Iosv router I have 1 port connected to the LAN segment through an external connector (custom setting to bridge1) and the other port connected to the internet segment through another external connector (bridge default). The default bridge is going to the VMware NAT connection - the same connection that otherwise provided 70Mbps which to me indicates VMware is not part of the problem. 

I believe if the hardware resources are there CML should be able to operate at the full capability - perhaps there is a limitation put into CML personal ? 

Just want to know if this is the case or what others have experienced. The reason for the LAB is I am hoping to test multicast AOIP traffic from a broadcast solution driver and check to ensure the AOIP takes priority - this involves additional configuration not yet put in place but there is no point to proceed if the virtual CML environment is limited from the start in it's performance capabilities.  

as per i know some CSR router has bandwidth Limitation and required a License.

 

Never required my lab to connect to external and test bandwidth report, since your question made me to think.

 

I use CML and other Lab model simulators/emulators I use for different vendor testing in my Lab, since CML you can only so cisco based solution

 

Just build a Lab

 

IOL router L3

 

ISP----EXSI--VM---IOL router(ethernet)---Windows 10 (fast.com - I get 33 MB testing)
