questions about getting started with CML v2.x

Hi there

I am looking to get the CML Personal version to help me with my CCNP study.

I am looking at the system requirements page at:

https://developer.cisco.com/docs/modeling-labs/#!cml-2-1-admin-guide-installing-cml-system-requirements

In particular the CPU requirements of:

"

4 (physical cores)

*Must support VTx and EPT or AMDv and RVI. These CPU flags are required for nested virtualization.

"

Unfortunately I don't think my laptop's CPU will do the job, as according to my systems spec page within the windows 10 control panel, my CPU is the following:

"

intel(r) core(tm) i7-7500u cpu @ 2.70ghz

"

And this seems to be only a dual core CPU rather than the required 4 core CPU to run CML. Also the above specs I mentioned state "Must support VTx and EPT or AMDv and RVI. These CPU flags are required for nested virtualization." -- I have been unable to confirm whether or not my CPU supports these features but if someone could advise me on that, that would be great.

Note I have found intel's page that seems to outline the detailed specs for my processor, and I couldn't find any mention of "VTx and EPT or AMDv and RVI" :

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/processors/core/i7-processors/i7-7500u.html

So in light of the above discussion, I doubt that my laptop will be able to run CML... but if someone with more technical knowledge than me could comment on that as well, that would be much appreciated ....

But assuming my laptop will not be able to run CML, the next option that comes to mind would be to use some cloud service like AWS to run CML on.

Therefore I am wondering would it be straightforward for me to rent a virtual server via AWS that has the required system specs? --- and assuming that is straightforward, would it also be easy for me to install the required VMware and the CML software itself on the virtual AWS server?

Any and all feedback on the above discussion would be much appreciated .... !

Hi

Does My Processor Support Intel® Virtualization Technology?

Intel® Core™ i7-7500U Processor

You could deploy VIRL (CML previous name) in the cloud on Packet (Equinux Metal now) or other bare metal server provider.
