Sysadmin or Admin credentials not working

Hi,

I am currently having issues logging in with the admin or sysadmin user credentials on the CML's CLI locally and GUI on the web. One works on the CLI and the other works on the GUI. I don't know what is going on. Can anyone help me resolve this issue? Thanks. I really appreciate it.

Hello @timothyc95,

what you describe is exactly how the access to CML is designed and documented.

The system administrator can only log into the System Administration Cockpit because this account is designed to manage the CML server itself. The system administrator account cannot be used to log into CML’s HTML5 UI aka Dashboard.

The admin account which is the initial user account has access to the Dashboard but will not be able to log in and make system changes to the System Administration Cockpit.

  • sysadmin --> login only to the System Administration Cockpit at https.//<CML-Server-IP>:9090
  • admin      --> login only to the Dashboard at https.//<CML-Server-IP>

So both accounts serve completely different purposes and therefore have completely different permissions!

This is described in detail at the Installation Guide for CML 2.9.

HTH!

Jens, thank you for this information! I was able to login into both the System Administration Cockpit and the Dashboard using the appropriate account credentials on the web browser for both login prompts. Now I just need to be able to do the same on the CML Server locally on the VM machine itself. Can you help me with this? Thanks, I really appreciate it.

Well, when you log into the CML server locally, you want to manage the CML server itself, right?
So of course you need to use the sysadmin account:

The same terminal can also be accessed via the System Administration Cockpit.
After login choose 'Terminal' which is the last entry on the left side under 'Tools':

So 2 ways to get there with the same account and same privileges. The choice is yours.

HTH!

Thanks for this information! I really appreciate it but I don't want to manage the CML server itself as of now. The issue that I am having is that my sysadmin password is not going through when I authenticate before uploading a VM image from my computer into the CML server using the SCP protocol from the CML server's local command line interface. My admin password would work but my sysadmin one wouldn't. Can you help me resolve this? Here is a screenshot:

I am not sure where from where you uploading the image, you need upload from end device to CML right ?

you already in the CML and uploading to self ? what is the IP 192.168.207.128 ?

you can also upload image using GUI :

Sorry for not providing more background information regarding my problem Balaji.Bandi.

Here is my problem:

I am uploading the VM image from my local computer to the CML server (which is running on a VM on the local computer) using the ip address 192.168.207.128 to connect to it.

I already uploaded the VM image to the CML server using the web-based GUI but the Desktop node I added the image to in my network topology was not able to boot up from the VM image.

This is my network topology:

I associated the Custom VM image to desktop-0 and this is the message that I am getting after I boot up the VM and open VNC:

WhatsApp Image 2025-08-30 at 17.38.52_a58b393c.jpg

It remains in this state and doesn't change.

This is the reason I used the SCP protocol as an alternative method for uploading the VM image to CML since it ensures the confidentiality and integrity of the file during transit.

I am assuming that the integrity of the file was affected as it was being uploaded to the CML server using the web-based GUI method since I was getting different error messages on the VM whenever I uploaded it again.

Now I just need to be able to resolve the authentication issues so that I would be able to proceed with the file transfer successfully. Can you help me with this? Thanks.
